In the first course of this series, we talked about what the word witch meant to you and defined other witchcraft terms, such as 'witchcraft'. There are many sources of energy and which sources you choose to work with is a personal choice that you'll experiment with along your journey and find the path that suites you best. Let's dive into energy as it pertains to witchcraft and spirituality.

Let’s go over some ways to protect yourself while doing magical and/or spiritual tasks as well as general protection.

As I discuss casting a circle, it is important to note that I am not talking about any closed practices, specific paths, etc. This is a generic approach that you can customize depending on your beliefs and/or specific path.

I also want to preface this section by saying it is not necessary to cast a circle for witchcraft, this is a personal preference for each witch. The purpose of this section is to show you one of the ways you can conduct protection work in witchcraft.

One way you can add intention and layers of meaning to spells is with color magic. By using a specific color of candle, drawing with a pen of a specific color, or wearing a particular color of clothing can add to our practice.

Nature has always played a vital role in witchcraft, providing witches with the tools and energies needed to enhance their magical practice. Herbal correspondences—specific magical properties associated with herbs and plants—are fundamental to spellwork, rituals, and healing practices. This lesson explores the significance of nature in witchcraft and offers a guide to herbal correspondences for various magical intentions.

Below is a self love spell that you can either perform as per the instructions below or customize it to your liking! Experimenting is good!

One of the centers of many spiritual practices is honoring the cycles of the moon. She affects the Earth and its inhabitants in many beautiful ways; the tides of the ocean, reproductive cycles of animals, hormone levels of humans, and so many other amazing things. It makes sense that we honor her in our spiritual practices.

Let’s talk about the Sun. It is traditionally an ‘action’ and projective energy to work with and can assist you in creating action energy for your spells. It also feeds your solar plexus and sacral energy centers and is a great way to breathe some good energy into them.

Altars are where you can do spells and rituals, create spell items, do meditations at, keep your spiritual tools, and to place candles. There are many different ways to create an altar and some of this depends on your path or if you follow a particular religion or set of beliefs.

Altar tools can be a great way to focus energy on the intention of your working. They also can be a way to represent your specific path, faith, or religion. I'll be discussing the basic tools for witchcraft. Keep in mind, witchcraft is not a religion, it is a practice. If you are Wiccan or Buddhist, for example, your tools may not be the same and you may have more or less items on your altar that you work with.

Take some time this week and create or rearrange your altar/s. Decide what kind of altar you want and need, where you can store it or place it, and what you want to include on your altar.

Herbs and Oils are spell ingredients that I find fun to use and add a layer of intention and magic to spells and rituals!

There is more to working with herbs and oils than just adding them to your spells or dressing candles with them. The herb or oil is a tool and a type of energy and thus needs to be used with intention.

Let's create a protection spell bag for someone or yourself.

Jewelry plays a large role in my practice as well as my mundane life. I wear rings, necklaces, and bracelets to match my outfit or mood of the day. I also wear them for metaphysical reasons like boosting my energy, protection, self-love..and you get the idea. I also have pieces I only wear for ritual or spellwork that are extra special to me and those make me feel certain ways to empower my magic and spiritual practice.

So how can you charm an object to be a talisman or amulet? I have specific rituals that I use but I’ll give you a stripped-down example of a way I do it.

Let's dive into spells and creating your own! I've created some prep work documents and other worksheets to guide you through the process. We will start with the Spell Prep Worksheet. This will help you identify your goals, date/time of the spell, time allotted, ingredients, tools, and other specifics you'll need to identify before moving forward.

Success of spells is determined by a myriad of variables, but one thing that can tank a spell is your own doubt in your ability to carry out a successful spell. We went over this sort of thing in the Foundations class but I think it's worth mentioning again.
